Montenegro is actively lobbying to join the EU and switch to the euro by 2028 – Bloomberg

The country of 600,000 people already uses the euro unilaterally and sees membership as achievable due to its small size, NATO membership and bringing laws in line with EU norms.

President Jakov Milatovic said Montenegro’s accession would be a “success story” for the EU and would stabilise the region by limiting the influence of Russia and China. He emphasised that the country would not switch to a provisional currency until it officially joins the eurozone.
