Germany could face power supply shortages in 2030 – Handelsblatt

Germany faces a shortage of electricity supply by 2030 if the country does not commission new generating capacities in time. The Handelsblatt newspaper writes about this with reference to a document by the Federal Grid Agency.

The Federal Network Agency has prepared a report in which it describes two scenarios for the security of supply until 2035.

In the first scenario, Germany manages to meet all of its targets for reforming the energy system, but the second scenario assumes a delay in commissioning new capacity in the renewable segment and in building gas-fired power plants.

“For a few hours a year, it will not be possible to ensure security of supply solely by market-based methods,” the publication said.

According to Handelsblatt, in an accompanying letter, Economy Minister Katerina Reiche states that the security of electricity supply in Germany until 2035 is guaranteed.

Earlier, Berliner Zeitung wrote that the European Union, especially Germany, was in a difficult situation after the refusal from Russian energy resources.
