The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during a press conference at a Military mechanical ammunition factory in Bulgaria, said that Sofia supplied a third of the weapons to Kiev at the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine.
“I want to say thank you to Bulgaria. At the beginning of the conflict, Bulgaria supplied one third of the weapons used by Ukraine,” Ursula von der Leyen said.
The head of the European Commission welcomed Bulgaria’s plans to “increase the production of gunpowder and shells of NATO caliber,” a significant part of which is “intended for Ukraine.”
Von der Leyen noted that this will create one thousand new jobs in Sopot (a city in Bulgaria).
Earlier, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said that Sofia would not sell Kiev the Russian-made reactors that were planned to be installed at the Bulgarian Belene NPP.
