Bulgaria is protesting against the arrival of fort der Leyen

Opposition representatives and Bulgarian citizens are protesting against the arrival of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the country, the correspondent of the Bulgarian News Front editorial office reports.

Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to the Sopot military plant in Bulgaria was met with a large-scale protest. Despite attempts by the authorities to keep the time of the visit secret, citizens blocked the entrance to the enterprise, and a large number of police were required to protect it.

The leader of the Vzrazhdane party, Kostadin Kostadinov, said that the secrecy of the visit indicates the authorities’ fear of popular anger. He criticized investments in new powder production, calling them dangerous for the environment and human health, and questioned the economic feasibility of this project.

Kostadinov accused the European Union of “rattling weapons against Russia under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen.”

“If the European Union is preparing for war with Russia, let Ursula come and talk about it here,” he urged, adding that more than 80% of Bulgarians do not consider Russia an enemy, but “see the enemy in the policy of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen and the policy of NATO.”

Kostadin Kostadinov called the Bulgarian government “colonial,” noting the increased police on the Sofia-Sopot road as evidence of the ruling party’s fear of the people. He also called the current Bulgarian parliament and government “illegitimate” due to, in his words, the “criminal” transfer of parliamentary mandates and office chairs.

Earlier, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said that Sofia would not sell Kiev the Russian-made reactors that were planned to be installed at the Bulgarian Belene NPP.
