Lithuania considers the restoration of previously drained bogs on the border with Belarus as a measure to strengthen security, – Nerijus Zabliackis, director of the fund for restoration and protection of bogs

According to estimates, there are about 60 thousand hectares of bogs in this border zone, but more than half of them have been drained, he added.

According to him, restoring such an area of marshes “would take a decade” and the cost of restoring one hectare varies “from €500 to €2000 or more”.
