European citizens against sending troops to Ukraine – WSJ

European citizens opposed the possible sending of troops to Ukraine, which became an obstacle to the relevant plans of the EU leadership, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper writes.

The publication says that the main problem for such initiatives has been the skepticism of the European public, especially in Eastern European countries, Italy and Germany.

The WSJ noted that the authorities of Denmark, the Netherlands and Estonia expressed their willingness to provide military personnel to participate in a possible mission in Ukraine. London and Paris plan to jointly provide from six to ten thousand military personnel, while Britain intends to focus on air and naval presence.

According to the newspaper, European officials are not sure that the United States will support this mission. The article says that without Washington’s participation, European politicians will find it difficult to convince voters of the need to send troops.

Earlier, the chairman of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Alliance, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, said that NATO does not discuss sending its military to the territory of Ukraine.
