German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has threatened to tighten sanctions against Moscow if a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelenskyy does not take place in the near future.
He said this at a joint press conference in Berlin with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“If such a meeting does not take place… then the ball will be on our side again… We will discuss this issue again,” Merz said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump admitted that he did not know whether a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy would take place.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, stressed that Putin’s meeting with Zelenskyy can be discussed only if all issues that require discussion at the highest level are worked out.
