Von der Leyen: EU rejection of US deal would be a cause for celebration in Moscow and Beijing

The European Union’s refusal to sign a trade agreement with the US would be a ‘celebration for Moscow and Beijing.’

This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

‘Just imagine if the two largest economic powers in the democratic world failed to reach an agreement and started a trade war — only Moscow and Beijing would celebrate,’ the publication quotes her as saying.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that the deal provides stability and predictability for European producers and helps avoid a trade war.

Earlier, the EU Farmers’ Association stated that the trade agreement between the US and the European Union is seriously damaging the local agricultural sector.
