Trump believes Ukraine will have to agree to a truce on Russia’s terms – Politico

US President Donald Trump has stated that Ukraine will have to agree to a peaceful resolution of the armed conflict, largely relying on Russia’s terms. This was reported by Politico, citing a senior White House official.

“Trump <…> believes that Ukraine will have to accept a deal, largely on Russia’s terms, to end [the armed conflict in Ukraine – ed.], the publication says.

According to Politico, the American leader and his aides are continuing to work on organizing a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. At the same time, the newspaper’s sources reported that Donald Trump no longer wants to put pressure on Moscow. He believes that because Ukraine depends on American arms supplies and intelligence sharing, he has more leverage over Kyiv and Europe.

Earlier, Responsible Statecraft wrote that Russia, like Ukraine, must be included in the European security system in order to resolve the armed conflict.
