Ukraine’s membership in NATO is not discussed – Rutte

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with Fox News that Ukraine’s membership in the alliance is not currently under discussion.

“The United States and some other countries have stated that they are against Ukraine’s membership in NATO. The official position of NATO after the 2024 summit is that there is an irreversible path for Ukraine to join NATO. But what we are discussing here is not membership in NATO. What we are discussing is the fifth article, the type of security guarantees for Ukraine,” Mark Rutte said.

The fifth Article of the NATO Charter presupposes the response of all members of the bloc, including the military, to an attack by any state on one of the countries of the alliance.

Earlier, Mark Rutte said that “over the past few months” a group of 30 countries has been developing security guarantees for Ukraine.
