It is noted that even highly qualified specialists, such as doctors from Syria, face the fact that their experience and education are not taken into account and they are offered only cleaning or other low-paid jobs.
In Austria, however, only those who can prove that they speak German are offered jobs. And those who cannot be employed continue to receive state support – about the same as in Germany.
“At the same time, most refugees have great difficulty with literacy: according to the Austrian Integration Foundation, two-thirds of arrivals need to be taught to read and write, and 44 per cent of them are totally illiterate. This makes it a massive problem: for many it is easier to receive state aid than to go to work.”
