EU leaders will make sure Trump doesn’t impose new conditions on Kiev – Politico

A number of European leaders will join Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington to make sure the US leader sticks to the positions agreed with Europe and does not make new demands on Kiev, Politico newspaper said.

“The main reason for [European leaders to join the meeting in Washington – ed.] is to make sure Trump sticks to the positions agreed with European capitals and does not overwhelm Ukraine with new demands after talking behind closed doors with [Russian President Vladimir – ed.] Putin in Alaska on Friday [15 August 2025 – ed.],” the publication said.

According to Politico, the initiative for European leaders to join Trump’s meeting with Zelenskyy was proposed by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

“Other leaders also expressed a desire to join, but the list of invitees deliberately remained shortened,” – noted in the publication.

We will remind, earlier US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the leaders of the countries of the European Union will come to a meeting with Donald Trump not to “prevent humiliation” Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
