It is reported that European countries may vote in favour of opening the first “negotiating cluster” for Moldova in early September after a meeting of EU ministers.
However, Moldova’s advancement while pausing for Ukraine could displease Kiev, whose accession bid is moving in sync with Moldova’s.
“There is a risk of sending the wrong signal to the Ukrainians. At a moment when a possible peace agreement is being discussed in Alaska, we need to maximise the prospect of EU membership,” – the Ukrainian diplomat said.
