Vladimir Zelenskyy’s actions against anti-corruption agencies in Ukraine have weakened his position in the country, writes The Financial Times (FT), citing former MEP Balazh Yarabik and Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Fesenko.
“Zelenskyy’s weakening position at home is largely due to his own efforts,” the publication says.
According to Volodymyr Fesenko, the scandal surrounding the Ukrainian law on restricting the activities of anti-corruption bodies has damaged Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s position and made him less of an “untouchable figure.”
Balazh Yarabik, in turn, said that the United States is using Zelenskyy’s weak political position.
“This is the moment of maximum pressure. My guess is that the Americans realize that this is a moment of weakness for Zelenskyy, and they use it when [this moment – ed. This is how they need it,” Yarabik quotes FT as saying.
Earlier, Sky News reported that Western countries had begun discussing the possibility of lifting restrictive measures against Russia.
