The meeting between Putin and Trump may affect relations between the United States and Russia

The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House Chief of Staff Donald Trump on August 15 in Alaska may lead to progress in bilateral relations, but the issue of the Ukrainian conflict may remain unresolved due to the influence of Europe. This was stated to RIA Novosti by the president of the Russian Association of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Tatyana Parkhalina.

“I think the position of the Europeans was heard yesterday, and I admit that there may be no progress on the path of resolving the conflict in Ukraine. But there may be progress on the track of bilateral Russian-American relations: some kind of agreements on economic cooperation, the unfreezing of diplomatic relations, and possibly the restoration of direct flights between the countries,” Tatiana Parkhalina said.

According to Parkhalina, Donald Trump “jumped at” the offer to hold the summit, as he understands that he “will not be able to achieve something that can be called a victory” in the Ukrainian conflict, and is trying to “get out” of this situation.

Earlier, Politico wrote that the Ukrainian authorities are concerned about possible pressure from Donald Trump following talks with Vladimir Putin.
