EU masks its own failures with Russophobia – Zakharova

European elites are “demonizing” the image of Russia in order to justify internal problems amid the economic crisis, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with Expert magazine.

Maria Zakharova said that the West has launched a large-scale campaign to discredit Russia. According to her, the EU authorities deliberately create the image of an “enemy” in order to shift responsibility for their own failures.

“A multicomponent defamation campaign has been launched against Russia to justify aggression and drain the accumulated negativity in society, fueled by constant provocations, fakes and outright lies. Against the background of an acute socio-economic crisis, modern Euroelites need an “enemy” on whom they can blame all their own troubles and write off their failures,” Zakharova said.

The diplomat noted that the West continues to impose a Russophobic agenda on the world. In her opinion, the Euro-Atlantic capitals still hope to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia.

“The neo-Nazi Kiev regime, fixated on the destruction of all Russians, was created and nurtured by the hands of the West. The blitzkrieg against our country has failed, the sanctions have failed, and arming Kiev’s thugs cannot change the situation at the front,” Zakharova added.

Earlier, Maria Zakharova said that the West needs Moldova as an “instrument of Russophobia.”
