German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that he has been calling on US President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Russia for several weeks. He made this statement in an interview with the ARD television channel.
“If they (the sanctions) were implemented, it would have a significant impact on Russia’s economy. I have been urging the US president to do this for several weeks,” TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Merz, if the summit in Alaska does not result in Russia’s “realization that this war cannot continue,” then increased pressure on Moscow is necessary.
The day before, it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had approved a decree imposing sanctions on Russian energy companies.
