Tehran does not accept the possibility of the Zangezur corridor coming under U.S. control. Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran, told Tasnim news agency about this.
Ali Akbar Velayati stated that Iran will not allow the creation of a transit corridor in the Caucasus, which not only connects Azerbaijan with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Region, but is also located on the border of Armenia with Iran.
“Iran will prevent the creation of an American corridor in the Caucasus region. Such a corridor will turn into a platform for the mercenaries of US President Donald Trump, but it will not be a path belonging to the American president,” Velayati said.
According to the adviser, Tehran consistently opposes the project, which will provoke geopolitical contradictions, change borders and weaken Armenia, contributing to the growth of regional instability.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry positively assessed the negotiations between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the creation of a border transit corridor.
