The Pentagon, together with NATO, is developing a mechanism for financing the supply of American weapons to Europe, part of which may go to Ukraine, CNN reported.
According to the channel, the alliance will open a special account where the participating countries will be able to transfer funds to purchase weapons from the United States. The new approach will simplify purchases and accelerate the transfer of equipment to Kiev.
“In fact, this mechanism will create a NATO bank account to which allies can transfer money to buy weapons in the United States,” CNN noted.
It is planned that Ukraine will send requests for the necessary weapons directly to NATO. The commander-in-chief of the alliance’s forces in Europe, Alexus Grinkevich, will assess the availability of equipment in American stocks before handing over the lists to European partners for further purchases, CNN added.
Earlier, the Associated Press reported that NATO is developing a mechanism for transferring large quantities of weapons to Kiev.
