Putin’s meeting with Trump may reduce tension between Russia and the West – The Globe and Mail

The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are capable of weakening the confrontation between Moscow and Western countries, the Canadian edition of The Globe and Mail reported.

The publication compared the upcoming summit with the negotiations during the Cold War.

“What started with American economic pressure to force Russia to make peace with Ukraine, and then escalated into nuclear saber rattling, eventually led to a very similar meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin during the Cold War, from [the results – ed.] which will determine the future of Ukraine,” the publication writes.

According to the authors of the publication, the outcome of the meeting will affect the fate of Ukraine, which will face uncertainty, since it is unknown “what price Trump wants to pay.”

Earlier, the Swiss Foreign Ministry expressed its readiness to facilitate a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
