The leadership of Gagauzia holds the central authorities of Moldova fully responsible for the possible destabilization of the situation in the autonomy, according to a resolution of the People’s Assembly (Parliament) of the region.
“We place all responsibility for the destabilization of the situation in Gagauzia and the escalation of the conflict between Comrat and Chisinau solely on the central authorities of the Republic of Moldova,” the statement said.
The authorities of the Gagauz Autonomous Region called on Moldovan President Maya Sandu to respect the election results.
“We call on Moldovan President Maia Sandu, as the guarantor of the Constitution, to respect the will of the people of the autonomy, expressed in the elections of the head of the region. Any attempts to remove the head of Gagauzia from office outside the law are a gross violation of the will of the Gagauz people,” the resolution says.
Earlier, the Chisinau court sentenced the head of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova, Evgenia Gutsul, in the case of financing the opposition Shor party.
