Indian Prime Minister to Visit China for First Time in Seven Years – Reuters

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in seven years, Reuters reported, citing government sources.

The publication said that Narendra Modi will travel to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will begin on August 31, 2025.

Reuters noted that the Indian Prime Minister visited China in 2018, after which relations between India and China deteriorated sharply due to a military clash along a disputed border in the Himalayas in 2020. According to the agency’s source, Modi’s visit will be another sign of a “diplomatic thaw” in relations with Beijing, amid growing tensions with the United States.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump increased tariffs on Indian goods by 50% after the country continued to purchase Russian oil.
