US tariffs have not affected the global economy, – UN

Despite the tariffs imposed by the United States, the global economy demonstrated resilience in the first half of 2025. This was stated by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in the context of the new US tariffs.

“Until now, global trade has been resilient, with an estimated growth of around 2% in the first half of 2025. However, the newly imposed US tariffs have not only exceeded the expectations of some trading partners, but have also reintroduced an element of uncertainty, making the outlook for the second half of the year less predictable,” UNCTAD said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The UN also highlighted the decrease in global trade’s dependence on the United States over the past decade, describing it as a positive development.

According to UNCTAD, many companies from developing countries have been able to enter alternative markets, which has had a positive impact on reducing U.S. trade restrictions.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a new executive order imposing tariffs on 68 countries and the European Union.
