The United States has imposed major sanctions on Iran – Bessent

The US Department of the Treasury has tightened sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to a statement by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, published on the department’s website.

“The more than 115 sanctions measures introduced today are the largest to date since the beginning of the administration of [US President Donald Trump — ed.] Trump’s campaign to exert maximum pressure on Iran,” Scott Bessent said in a statement.

50 individuals and organizations of Iran were sanctioned. Several dozen Iranian vessels allegedly linked to the Iranian oil trade were also included in the list.

Bessent said that these measures put America first, as long as Tehran threatens the very security of the United States.

Earlier, the head of the European Union’s diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, did not rule out that the EU could reinstate sanctions against Iran if there is no progress in negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program.
