The US-EU deal will not be able to put pressure on Russia, – Newsweek

US President Donald Trump’s trade agreement with the European Union will not be able to exert pressure on Russia, according to Newsweek.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union still receives a significant amount of Russian energy resources, and there are doubts about whether a deal between the EU and the US could deprive Russia of its main source of income.

“As long as there is a market for cheap Russian oil, it will be very difficult for countries that support Ukraine to put financial pressure on Moscow,” Septimus Knox, director of disputes and investigations at S-RM, told the publication.

According to Knox, Russia has been successful in reorienting itself from the European Union to China, India, and Turkey, which have surpassed the EU in terms of energy imports.

Earlier, Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council, stated that the European Union had agreed to a trade agreement with the United States, choosing the least painful option available.
