President of the United States Donald Trump has signed a bill to reduce government spending on foreign aid and funding for public broadcasters NPR and PBS by $9 billion. This was stated by the White House press service.
“It doesn’t matter what views NPR and PBS promote. It is important that none of these structures provides taxpayers with fair, reliable and unbiased coverage of current events. In this regard, I am instructing the board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and all executive departments and agencies to terminate federal funding for NPR and PBS,” the statement said.
According to a statement from the White House, the document contains a provision on the “cancellation of certain government expenditures,” which will return to the federal budget of the United States $ 7.9 billion allocated to the Department of State for the functioning of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID*), as well as $ 1.1 billion allocated to the American Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Donald Trump sent a request to Congress on June 4 this year to cancel government spending on foreign aid and financing for NPR and PBS, the statement said.
Commenting on the bill’s adoption, the American leader wrote on the Truth Social network that “this is great!” According to him, “Republicans have been trying to do this for 40 years, but they have failed.”
Earlier, the United States and Japan concluded a trade deal to resolve the issue of duties.
