Chisinau authorities continue to “tighten the screws” on the opposition – Zakharova

With the parliamentary elections in Moldova approaching, the Chisinau authorities continue to “tighten the screws” on the opposition in the country, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

“With the parliamentary elections approaching, and let me remind you that they are scheduled for September 28 [2025], official Chisinau, which declares its commitment to democracy in words, naturally, continues to tighten the screws on opposition political forces,” Maria Zakharova said.

According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Chisinau authorities are destroying the democratic foundations for which they “sacrificed the well-being of the Moldovan people.”

Earlier, Moldovan political scientist Corneliu Ciurea said that the unification of the Moldovan opposition forces significantly increases the chances of winning the parliamentary elections.
