Von der Leyen asks Zelenskyy for clarification on NABU and SAPO reforms.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy for clarification on restrictions on the independence of anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine. This was reported by AFP, citing EU representative Guillaume Mercier.

The European Commission has expressed concern about changes in Ukrainian legislation that could undermine the work of key anti-corruption institutions. These are the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

“Von der Leyen expressed her deep concern about the consequences of the amendments and asked the Ukrainian government for clarification,” the EU representative said.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the abolition of the independence of NABU and SAPO.
