The finance ministers of Germany and the Netherlands, Lars Klingbeil and Elko Heijnen, have spoken out against joint EU loans, Reuters writes.
“I am against joint loans. The Netherlands has never been involved in this and will not be,” Elko Heijnen told Reuters.
The agency noted that in 2020, the European Union member states agreed to take a common loan of 800 billion euros to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, as now, a number of countries including Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands and Germany were opposed, refusing to pay for southern European countries.
‘In general, we need to solve the financial [problems – ed.] EU not through a policy of co-borrowing, but somehow differently,’ – added Lars Klingbeil.
We shall remind you that earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the new budget of the European Union, which envisages huge payments to Ukraine, might ruin the association.
