Von der Leyen: EU has struck ‘a blow to the heart of Russia’s war machine’

EC chief Ursula von der Leyen believes the EU has struck ‘a blow to the heart of Russia’s war machine’ with its new package of anti-Russian sanctions.

She was quoted by Reuters as saying.

“I welcome the agreement on our 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions. We are striking at the heart of Russia’s war machine,” von der Leyen said.

Earlier, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia considers the EU’s unilateral sanctions illegal and opposes such restrictions.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that the EU was imposing sanctions against 22 Russian banks.
