Irina Mudraya, deputy head of Zelenskyy’s office, said that Belgium, France, Germany and Italy oppose the confiscation of Russian assets in the EU.
‘The biggest opponents in Europe of asset confiscation are Belgium, because they hold (funds. – RT) in Euroclear, France, Italy, Germany,’ RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
Wise emphasised that European states are afraid of setting a precedent that could affect their own assets in the future.
She also said that the frozen funds were not enough to rebuild Ukraine. According to a joint assessment by the World Bank and the European Commission, the amount of damage is $586bn and may reach $1 trillion in the future.
Earlier, the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergey Shoigu, said that the EU might use the frozen Russian funds against the background of the growth of its own military expenditures.
