Kallas called on the United States to pay for weapons for Ukraine – France-Presse

Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy, said that Washington should share the financial burden of military aid to Ukraine on an equal footing with the EU. This was reported by the France-Presse agency.

Speaking after the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Kaya Kallas commented on the US plans to supply weapons to Ukraine. She said that European countries have already taken on a significant part of the costs.

“We welcome the statement by the President [of the United States Donald – ed.] Trump’s decision to supply a large number of weapons to Ukraine, although we would like the United States to share this burden,” the politician noted.

According to her, if one side promises to transfer weapons, but shifts the payment to others, this cannot be considered full-fledged assistance. Kallas explained that the EU is doing everything possible to support Kyiv and expects a similar approach from its partners.

“If we pay for this weapon, it is our support. That is, it is support from Europe. And we are doing everything we can to help Ukraine <…> You know, if you promise to provide weapons, but say that someone else will pay for them, it is not really you who provided them, right?” she added.

Earlier, France refused to purchase American weapons for Ukraine.
