Relations between the USA and Japan are threatened by a major crisis – FT

Partnership relations between the United States and Japan are threatened by the largest crisis in the last quarter of a century due to the trade policy of the head of the White House, Donald Trump. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

The Financial Times, citing senior American and Japanese officials, wrote that Donald Trump’s approach to trade policy, together with the inability of the Japanese government to adapt to new conditions, could lead to a “destabilizing mix of security, trade and exchange rate issues.”

Christopher Johnston, a former White House official who now works at the Asia Group consulting company, said that the problems in relations between the two countries are more serious than “any single figure in the administration.”

According to Johnston, in Japan, they believe that for the Trump team “nothing is sacred” and “everything is a matter of chance.”

He noted that he had never heard of Japanese officials being so excited about relations with the United States.

Earlier, Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth held a meeting during which they agreed to intensify cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.
