On July 4, 2022, Slovakia blocked the 18th package of sanctions against Russia initiated by the European Union at the ambassadorial level. This was reported by TASR.
“On Friday, July 4, the Slovak Republic once again blocked the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia at the level of ambassadors of member states to the European Union,” the publication said.
TASR noted that Slovakia plans to continue consultations with the European Commission as part of the program to phase out Russian gas from 2028 (RePowerEU), but the EC needs to provide security guarantees, as the country still has concerns without them.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump lifted sanctions on a number of Russian assets.
