Russia’s defeat in Ukraine is not beneficial to China – Wang Yi

During a meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that a hypothetical defeat of Russia could pose a threat to the PRC. This was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

‘If Moscow loses, the US will focus on China,’ Wang Yi said.

Wang Yi also rejected accusations of military or financial support for Russia, pointing out that in that case, the conflict in Ukraine would already be over.

The talks lasted four hours and, according to the SCMP, included ‘history lessons’ and ‘lectures’ on realpolitik. Part of the discussion was devoted to Beijing’s argument about Washington’s inevitable shift of focus to Asia.

In addition, the Chinese minister hinted that the summit, which will take place in three weeks in China, may be shortened, which could indicate tension between Brussels and Beijing.

Earlier, the draft amendments to the Ukrainian state budget for 2025 stated that Ukraine plans to stop payments to China on the loan.
