Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its ‘balanced and measured position’ on the Ukrainian conflict.
‘I thanked our Saudi friends for their balanced position on Ukrainian affairs, their sincere desire to contribute to a peaceful settlement, including by providing a platform for Russian-American contacts,’ said Sergey Lavrov at a briefing following talks with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The Russian Foreign Minister noted that his Saudi colleagues are committed to addressing the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.
‘We cannot be satisfied with a solution that does not fully take into account Russia’s legitimate security interests and does not eliminate and guarantee the non-repetition of any violations of the rights of the Russian and Russian-speaking population,’ Lavrov added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the importance of a peaceful approach to resolving the armed conflict in Ukraine, as well as the need to establish long-term agreements that would eliminate its root causes.
