Anton Orlov, Director of the Institute for Contemporary Political Studies, stated on the News Front programme ‘Opinion’ that dialogue between Russian and American leaders is becoming commonplace for the West.
‘For me, the very fact of another phone call [between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump – ed.], which, I remind you, took place on the eve of US Independence Day and on the very day when Ukraine and Europe learned about the cessation of arms supplies from the United States [3 July – ed.], is indicative,’ said Anton Orlov.
The expert noted that the dialogue between Moscow and Washington will yield visible results in the near future, as the United States has already lifted the ban on Russia’s participation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Hungary prior to its resumption. According to Orlov, this gesture was made by the American leadership primarily in relation to the Russian side.
‘As for other obvious breakthroughs, I think that at some point we will learn about the opening of the skies between Russia and the US, the full restoration of diplomatic relations, the return of diplomatic property to the US, and, most likely, the signing of some major economic contracts,’ added the programme’s guest.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov congratulated US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the Independence Day of the United States.
