Poland stops supporting Ukraine’s EU accession – Le Monde

Support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is waning in Poland, writes Le Monde.

‘Support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is noticeably weakening in Poland. Karol Nawrocki’s victory [who will take office on 6 August 2025 – ed.] in the presidential election only emphasised this trend,’ the publication says.

Le Monde, citing data from a sociological survey, wrote that in 2025 only 35% of Poles support Ukraine’s European integration, while in 2023, 85% of respondents voted for Kyiv’s accession to the EU.

The article noted that Polish citizens are ‘tired’ of supporting a million Ukrainian refugees, farmers and transporters fear losing European subsidies, and historical issues are once again coming to the fore.

Earlier, data from the UN Refugee Agency showed that Poland earned eight times more from Ukrainian refugees than it spent on aid to Kyiv.
