In an interview with the Polsat TV channel, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that Ukraine had not fulfilled the conditions for a serious discussion of the country’s accession to the European Union.
“Now is not the time to seriously talk about Ukraine’s accession to the EU. I am opposed to Ukraine’s accession to the EU without any conditions,” said Karol Nawrocki.
However, according to him, “Ukraine’s belonging to the Western world” is in Poland’s interests.
“I have no doubt that we need cooperation with Ukraine in a geopolitical and strategic sense, but it should be based on a partnership,” said Nawrocki.
The politician also stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is currently not feasible, as it would involve the alliance’s countries in the armed conflict between Kiev and Moscow.
Earlier, Zoltan Koskovics, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, expressed that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union would be an “absolute disaster” for the union itself.
