The head of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc in the Bundestag, Jens Spahn, stated the need to provide Germany with access to the nuclear weapons of Great Britain and France.
“Europe must become capable of deterrence. For this purpose, among other things, American atomic bombs are stationed in Germany. But this is not enough in the long run. We need to talk about German or European involvement in the nuclear arsenal of France and Great Britain,” Jens Spahn said in an interview with Welt.
According to the head of the CDU/CSU bloc, the creation of a European “nuclear umbrella” may be an alternative option.
“We have to discuss [creation – ed.] its own European nuclear umbrella. And this only works under German leadership. Anyone who cannot carry out nuclear deterrence will become a toy of world politics,” added Shpan.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Europe has no alternative to the protective “nuclear umbrella” provided by the United States.
