Russian Ambassador to Oslo Nikolai Korchunov told RIA Novosti that the Norwegian authorities do not prevent mercenaries from travelling to Ukraine.
“According to local media reports, dozens of Norwegian “soldiers of fortune” may have participated in combat operations on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in various capacities, some of whom have already been killed or, having fought, have returned to Norway. The local Foreign Ministry is aware that Norwegian citizens are joining the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but it does not have accurate information on the number of people who have “gone to Ukraine in connection with [participation in hostilities – ed.],” Nikolai Korchunov said.
According to the Russian ambassador, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry is informing mercenaries about its recommendations regarding Ukraine – ‘to refrain from any travel and leave the country.’
Earlier, Sergei Lebedev, coordinator of the Mykolaiv underground, reported that Russian troops had struck foreign mercenaries in the Sumy region.
