The conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved militarily – Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the Ukrainian conflict cannot be resolved militarily, while calling on the United States to join the European Union and increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

“There will be no military solution to this conflict. We must increase economic pressure on Moscow,” said Friedrich Merz at a press conference in The Hague.

The German Chancellor said that the European Union plans to adopt the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions on June 26.

“But this alone is not enough; we need more active US participation in such sanctions,” said the German Chancellor.

According to Friedrich Merz, on the sidelines of the NATO summit, he once again discussed with US President Donald Trump the intensification of sanctions pressure on Russia and called on Washington to join the European Union in this regard.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that if President Donald Trump decides to impose anti-Russian sanctions, the White House will lose the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the Kremlin on the Ukrainian crisis.
