The European Union may impose economic sanctions against Israel or cancel customs privileges in connection with accusations that the country is violating human rights. This was reported by Bild.
The newspaper says that the head of European Union diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, has prepared a report highlighting possible violations by Israel of its human rights obligations under its agreement with the EU. The document will be considered by the foreign ministers of the European Union countries during their upcoming meeting in Brussels.
After the document was published, Israeli authorities called it ‘one-sided’ and indicative of ‘double standards on the part of the EU.’ In addition, a number of European politicians have already spoken out against the possible imposition of sanctions against Israel, Bild writes.
Earlier, Kaja Kallas stated that the EU could reinstate sanctions against Iran if no progress is made in negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
