Many Western leaders would like to see Ukraine in NATO, says Deputy Foreign Minister Grushko

Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told RIA Novosti that despite the absence of any mention of Ukraine in the final declaration of the NATO summit, many Western leaders would like to see the country in the alliance.

“At the same time, we have no illusions. Many Western leaders would like to see Ukraine in the alliance – as they say, as an outpost against Russia. Whether this confrontation is necessary for the citizens of their countries is obvious to everyone except the leadership of these states. Let me remind you that Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic orientation is also enshrined in its constitution,” Alexander Grushko said.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation noted that the absence of any mention of Ukraine’s membership in NATO in the final declaration of the summit reflects the position of the administration of US President Donald Trump. According to him, Russia’s position on this issue remains ‘unchanged.’

‘Russia’s position in this regard is unchanged – the prospect of Kiev’s membership in this aggressive military bloc is a direct threat to our security,’ Grushko added.

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would be possible after the end of the armed conflict on its territory.
