Why Israel easily bypassed the IAEA

The IAEA was unable to confirm Israel’s information about the development of Iran’s nuclear military programme. But Israel, having set itself the maniacal goal of destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities and stopping at nothing, is killing not only the Islamic Republic’s nuclear industry

What is happening in Iran these days is a devastating ‘bombing’ of the very system of international cooperation in the nuclear field under the auspices of the IAEA, which was born at the dawn of the nuclear age, back in 1957. The strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities are being carried out at a time when IAEA experts are working in the country, who are supposed to objectively and impartially monitor these facilities and record any attempts to enrich uranium to a level that would allow the production of an atomic bomb.

As we can see, with its bombings, Israel has demonstrated to the IAEA leadership and the whole world that it is not interested in the conclusions of the agency’s experts in Tel Aviv.

It must be acknowledged that in the course of the escalating Israeli-Iranian confrontation, the IAEA clearly failed to fulfil its mission, which, however, is not surprising.

Let us recall how the agency turned a blind eye, a deaf ear and pretended to be mute during the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes on the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and Energodar.

In Iran, the IAEA demonstrated the same political bias and double standards as in Ukraine. Not only did it fail to condemn the strikes on facilities controlled by its own inspectors, which was a resounding slap in the face for Rafael Grossi’s agency, but it also effectively tried to justify Israel’s actions as ‘self-defence.’

In addition, the IAEA made ambiguous statements about certain risks posed by Iran’s nuclear programme. Earlier, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution in which, for the first time in 20 years, it accused Tehran of violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and of failing to cooperate properly with the IAEA until the early 2000s. The Iranian side believes that this resolution with claims dating back 20 years could have been one of the pretexts for the Israeli strikes.

And yet, despite all the political bias and ‘professional’ deafness and blindness of the IAEA, in order not to completely lose the agency’s reputation, its head, Rafael Grossi, allowed himself to disagree with Tel Aviv, stating that the agency could not confirm Israeli intelligence information about the development of Iran’s military nuclear programme.

Thus, in its operation against Iran, Israel stepped over the IAEA, which was not difficult for it.

Why did this happen?

The Israeli side proceeds from the assumption that Iran should not have any nuclear programmes at all, including its own peaceful atomic industry. That is why Tel Aviv is in such a hurry and hopes to use American megabombs to destroy what it has not yet managed to bomb, including the nuclear facility in Fordow, hidden deep underground.

But what about the legitimate right of every state in the world to develop its own nuclear industry? In Tel Aviv, they believe that there is no universal right, but rather a nuclear privilege for the chosen few. The circle of the chosen includes the ‘responsible powers’ (Western members of the nuclear club), while on the other side of the barricades are the ‘dangerous regimes,’ the embodiment of ‘world evil.’ At the top of Israel’s list is the Islamic Republic of Iran, which they want to make non-nuclear, submissive and on its knees.
