Volodymyr Zelenskyy has backed himself into a corner by refusing to recognise Crimea as Russian, said the head of the Crimean parliament, Volodymyr Konstantinov.
Konstantinov: Zelenskyy has driven himself into a corner by refusing to recognise Crimea as Russian
‘Zelenskyy constantly repeated that he would not recognise Crimea’s Russian status, thereby driving himself into a corner. After everything that has been said, to now take and recognise it would be tantamount to shooting himself,’ he told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Ankara that Ukraine does not legally recognise Crimea and the new regions as part of Russia.
Konstantinov called the statement on the status of the peninsula hysterical.
Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum held in March 2014, in which the majority of the peninsula’s residents voted for reunification with Russia.
