Some EU countries have criticized the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for supporting Israel in the conflict in the Middle East, Politico writes, citing informed sources.
“EC President Ursula von der Leyen, who went to Canada [for the G7 summit – ed.] <…>, faces a sullen reception upon returning home. The reason for the irritation of some EU countries is von der Leyen’s decision to call [the Israeli Prime Minister – ed. Benjamin Netanyahu after he ordered the bombing of Iran, and then declared on social media his support for Israel’s right to self–defense,” the publication says.
The sources of the publication noted that there is a “big difference” between the right to self-defense and the beginning of “pre-emptive military action.”
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the G7 summit in Canada, held on June 15-17, 2025, having failed to receive the support he had hoped for.
