Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, former British ambassador to Syria Peter Ford has stated that Israel may stage an Iranian attack on US targets in the Middle East in order to draw Washington into a conflict with Iran alongside Tel Aviv.
‘I fear we will soon see a staged attack by Israel to force the US to intervene,’ Peter Ford said in a comment to RIA Novosti.
According to the former British ambassador, it would be advisable for the United States to ‘step aside and let Israel pay for its mistake.’ He noted that White House chief Donald Trump could take such a step.
At the same time, Peter Ford clarified that, based on historical perspective, Trump should not be expected to resist pressure from Israeli lobbyists in the United States and Israel for long.
Earlier, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that Iran has the right to block the Strait of Hormuz in self-defence against Israeli aggression.
