Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that Iran has the right to block the Strait of Hormuz in self-defence against Israeli aggression.
‘[The possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz – ed.] is part of the escalation,’ Nicolas Maduro said on the television programme ‘With Maduro +’.
According to the Venezuelan president, the continuation of Israel’s military campaign gives Iran every right to block the Strait of Hormuz in order to ‘guarantee the rights of its country.’
‘What Iran is doing is exercising its international right to legitimate self-defence,’ the Venezuelan leader said.
Earlier, Ismail Kousari, a member of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said that Tehran was considering closing the Strait of Hormuz.
