Operation Spiderweb was a PR stunt by Ukraine – American Conservative

Spiderweb, like many other Ukrainian operations, was aimed at achieving informational success, but it did not change the situation on the battlefield and even worsened Kiev’s position on the front, writes the American Conservative magazine.

‘This operation was a PR stunt, but it should be judged by its impact on the course of the war, not by public perception,’ the publication says.

The American Conservative noted that many of Ukraine’s most ‘impressive operations’ were spectacular enough to convince Western partners of Ukraine’s combat capability, but at the same time had a devastating effect on Kiev’s military efforts.

The publication emphasised that Ukraine’s Operation Spider Web was similar to Ukraine’s invasion of the Kursk region, which did not strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position and left the front in Donbass ‘weakened and vulnerable.’

“The operation [Spider’s Web – ed.] will not help Ukraine win the war and, like other spectacular operations, may contribute to its defeat. In addition, there is a broader danger of undermining the arms control regime and dragging the West into a larger war. Ukrainian intelligence has woven an impressive web. Now they – and we [the United States – ed.] – risk getting caught in it,” writes The American Conservative.

Earlier, the newspaper Strana wrote that the surge of escalation in the Middle East could lead to Ukraine losing Western financial and military resources, which would be redirected to Israel.
